How do you celebrate 100 years in business? BHC Insurance decided to do it by granting wishes for some local non-profits. The agency took to Facebook asking people in the communities they serve to nominate non-profits to receive donations of money or goods as part of their BHC Gives Back Birthday Benefit. A number of deserving agencies were nominated in the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas. BHC Insurance employees made the rounds handing out donations to those selected on behalf of the agency. It turned out to be a gift to them as well.
“We take so much for granted and today has pulled me back to be appreciative of the life that surrounds me, to give more, appreciate more, smile more and just be thankful,” said Sarah Day, Commercial Lines Team Leader for BHC in NWA. “I have been blessed by giving today.”
Six agencies received donations from BHC Insurance totaling more than $3,000. Here’s a look at the wishes granted.
FORT SMITH
Reynolds Cancer Support House
- Provides cost free services to over 5,200 cancer survivors and fighters in the River Valley, ranging in age from 11 months to 92 years.
- $440 in requested items purchased for donation including paper goods, gift cards and more
Beautify Fort Smith
- $500 for a tree to be planted locally and add to the tree canopy and aesthetics of Fort Smith. A benefit to be enjoyed by citizens and visitors
Salvation Army
- Salvation Army helps the homeless and gives them hope. They received $420 worth of items from their wish list. The list included flat twin sheets, towels, washcloths, soaps, shampoos, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. Also, basic staples for food baskets like peanut butter, canned meats and ramen noodles.
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS
Elizabeth Richardson Center
- ERC serves children and adults with disabilities throughout Northwest Arkansas. Five Child Development Centers serve children from six weeks to five years of age who have been diagnosed with developmental disabilities, such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc.
- The Child Development Centers received a donation of $1000 to purchase therapy equipment to support the speech, physical and occupational therapy each of these children needs.
DEB Project Deserving, Enriched & Blessed.
- Nonprofit working with foster parents in NWA to help with the unmet gap in clothing essentials.
- $400 donation of clothes, diapers, etc. to help them fill their shelves
Riders United 4 Children
- $300 for wireless printer to help with printing of information sheets to give to the public on how to spot the signs of abuse and neglect of children
